If you are missing one or more teeth, dental implants are a great, natural-looking option to replace them. Dental implants replace the root and the crown of a tooth and are the best way to restore your smile and chewing ability. Dr. Maria Bustamante of Seven Star Dental has been providing her patients with dental implant restorations for over ten years.

WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?
Dental Implants are the best option to replace one or multiple missing teeth. They can also be used as anchors for dentures to provide stability.
The first step is to place a small titanium post in the jawbone. The area is then allowed to heal for a few months while the post also fuses to the bone. Ultimately, an abutment and crown or a denture is placed on the implant, providing strength, function, and a natural appearance. Dental implants are often a more conservative alternative to a bridge because the adjacent teeth do not need to be ground down to use as support. If you have ill-fitting dentures, implants may be the perfect solution to restore your ability to smile and eat as you did with your natural teeth.
Implant placement involves a simple, outpatient surgical procedure. The bone is given a few months to fuse around the implant fixture in a process called osseointegration. This healing process typically takes 3-6 months. During the healing time, you can have temporary crowns installed so that you can eat and speak normally and maintain the appearance for your smile.
Once the implant is well fused to the bone, a final impression is taken to fabricate the permanent crown and complete the permanent restoration. In the final visit, an abutment is placed, which is the part that connects to the implant and supports the permanent crown.
MINI IMPLANTS
Mini dental implants are about half the size of a regular dental implant. This provides several benefits, as they can be used in situations where regular implants won’t work.
The main way we use mini implants is to provide support and stability to a full upper or lower denture. Four to six mini implants are needed for this purpose.
Because mini implants are smaller, often we don’t need to make an incision to place them. They can usually be inserted right through the gum into the bone, eliminating the recovery period needed with regular implants, and the restoration can usually be placed right away or a short time afterwards.
Mini implants are a lot more affordable than regular implants.

WHAT IS A DENTAL IMPLANT?
A dental implant is a titanium screw that is placed into the jaw bone and becomes a permanent new root for a missing tooth. An abutment and crown are then placed on the implant to provide a new tooth that is permanent and looks just like a natural tooth.
HOW ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS DIFFERENT FROM DENTURES?
Dentures are a removable set or partial set of teeth that need to be regularly taken out and cared for in a special way. They can feel bulky and may be difficult to get used to. Dental implants are a permanent replacement for missing teeth that can be cared for just like natural teeth.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DENTAL IMPLANTS?
- They look and feel just like real teeth
- They are permanent
- You can eat the foods you want without any fear of embarrassment.
- They function just as well as natural teeth.
WHO CAN PLACE A DENTAL IMPLANT?
Your dentist and a specialist, usually a periodontist or oral surgeon, typically work together to place a dental implant.
HOW MUCH DO IMPLANTS COST?
The price of your dental implants will vary based on how many implants you are having placed and what your insurance will cover. It also depends on whether we need to use a surgical guide, build up bone, or extract a tooth first. The cost of dental implants in Cincinnati, will be different than the cost in New York. The best way to find out is to schedule a consultation with us to determine your implant treatment plan and discuss a financing option that works with your budget.
DO DENTAL IMPLANTS HURT?
No. A local anesthetic will be given before the procedure so you do not feel any pain. If you have anxiety or fear, we can talk about sedation options.
HOW LONG DO IMPLANTS LAST?
When cared for properly, implants can last a lifetime. Proper oral hygiene and regular dental visits are essential to the success of your implants.
